Artist develops "anti-selfie" to analyze
the excess of selfie exhibition in networks
For the 12th consecutive year, Brazilian visual artist Tom Lisboa develops an urban intervention project in Curitiba. The difference is that this time the work in the city has as an extension in the virtual space of the Internet and social networks.
In "#HELPYOURSELFIE or self exposure strategies by tom lisboa" the artist proposes a reflection of the selfie contemporary phenomenon for its counteraction, in other words, the non-exposure. In a first moment, each viewer's face frame has all the gap areas filled. Then, in order to use it, each person must decide how much to show of themselves by cutting out the paper in the appropriate spaces.
Tom will produce and distribute 500 works of #helpyourselfie in Curitiba and also provide all models for download. As the hashtaged title indicates, the expectation is to see the result circulating in social networks, where selfies became popular. "In a time where everything can be seen and the self-exposure became commonplace, I think it is interesting to propose a work that takes a different direction. These "anti-selfies" are available for unrestricted public access, including for download. Help yourself and use them to create selfies as you wish." says Tom.

#HELPYOURSELFIE ou estratégias de autoexposição por Tom

Artista desenvolve "anti-selfie"
onde o espectador decide o quanto que se expor
Pelo 12º ano consecutivo, e novamente no mês de maio,
o artista visual Tom Lisboa desenvolve um projeto de intervenção urbana em
Curitiba. A diferença é que desta vez a cidade tem como extensão o espaço
virtual da internet e das redes sociais.
Em "#HELPYOURSELFIE
ou estratégias de autoexposição por tom lisboa" o artista propõe uma
reflexão do fenômeno contemporâneo da selfie pela sua ação contrária, ou seja,
a da não-exposição. Cada obra desta série que emolduraria o rosto do espectador
começa com todos os espaços preenchidos. Cabe a cada um decidir o quanto deseja
se mostrar recortando o papel nos espaços indicados.
Tom produzirá e distribuirá 500 obras da série pela
cidade, disponibilizará todos os modelos para download e, como a própria
hashtag do título indica, a expectativa é ver o resultado circulando nas
próprias redes sociais, local onde a selfie se popularizou. "Em uma época
onde tudo pode ser visto e a autoexposição virou lugar comum, acho interessante propor uma obra que vá no
sentido contrário. Estas "anti-selfies" estão disponíveis para acesso
irrestrito do público, inclusive para download. Que todos fiquem à vontade para
utilizá-las (que seria a tradução de help
yourself) e se mostrarem como quiserem. ", afirma tom.
